Biography

Alison started alto saxophone at Pauline South Intermediate in Topeka, KS and her director was Mrs. Cindy Cruz in 5th and 6th grade. She took piano lessons from Mrs. Linda Myers. Throughout her education years, she played chimes, hand bells, and woodwind ensembles and duets with her mom at church.

During her middle school years, she started 7th grade at Russell Middle School in Colorado Springs, CO where her director was Mrs. Debbie Blake. In 7th and 8th grade, she participated in CHSAA Solo and Ensemble, D11 Honor Band, jazz band, and symphonic band. She participated in Peakharmonic Youth Orchestra in the wind ensemble and saxophone quartet, under the direction of Mr. James Divine and Mr. Justin Carpenter.

In high school, Alison was a part of band programs in two schools: Wasson and Rampart High School. At Wasson, she participated the in marching, concert, and jazz bands all three years. She played alto saxophone and clarinet in the musical Bye Bye Birdie as a junior. Her director at Wasson High School was Mr. Andrew King. At Rampart, she participated in marching band, symphonic band, advanced jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, and winter percussion. Her directors were Mr. Gary Arrasmith and Mr. Aaron Carpenter. During her high school career, she participated in CSU-Pueblo “Festival of Winds”, Adams State “Top of the Nation”, CHSAA Solo and Ensemble, and All-City Concert Band. She took lessons from Mr. Wayne Hoey (saxophone) and Mrs. Carla Scott (oboe).

At CSU-Pueblo, she was in Alpha Lambda Delta National Academic Honor Society as a freshmen, participated in the CBDNA Southwestern Division Intercollegiate Band in 2016 with Professor Gary Lewis (CU-Boulder), and has been on the Dean’s List every semester. She has played in a numerous ensembles: wind ensemble, marching band, jazz band 1, clarinet choir, flute choir, and collaborative ensemble. She also had the opportunity to play several instruments in college ensembles: flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, alto saxophone, and tenor saxophone. The faculty directors of these ensembles have been Mr. Jason Emory, Dr. Alan Mills, Mr. Brad Eastin, Mrs. Pam Diaz, Mrs. Andrea Artley, and Dr. Zahari Metchkov. She has studied with Mrs. Sherry Boyer (oboe and English horn), Mr. Brad Eastin (saxophone), and Mrs. Pam Diaz (clarinet). During the summers, she has assisted numerous schools. She also traveled to North Carolina for the Eastern Music Festival as a counselor and has taught private lessons.

Alison has had the opportunity of studying with most of the CSU-Pueblo faculty being a Music major.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in May 2018. She got married in December 2018.

After CSU-Pueblo, she has been a guest saxophonist for Little London Winds and a guest oboist for Pikes Peak Philharmonic. She has worked for Music & Arts and Guitar Center. She has taught private lessons for 5 years and is choosing to explore other areas of music like arranging and composition.
